Portrait of Narok
Narok
The founder of the Perium Path, the life of Narok is a tale unto itself.
Starting his life no different from any others of his kin, the events that unfolded to make Narok what he became are at time shrouded in part rumor, part truth and part legend.

Early life

Born into the tribe known as the Skytouched, a relatively peaceful tribe situated up in the mountaintops isolated from most of the world and acting as a place of hospitality for travelers between the less peaceful tribes in the valleys surrounding the mountains or acting as mediators between the sides. As was common for the youth of the tribe, Narok was a courier for most of his youth learning to sustain himself off the lands, avoiding the dangers of the wilds while memorizing messages to their intended recipients.

Adolescence

The rite of passage among the Skytouched tribe was a test of survival skill and resilience. The youth are to be exiled from the tribe until they can bring back a weapon constructed from the bone of a predator and coated in the blood of a prey it would have to be used against, the weapon they bring back signifying not only their ascendance into adulthood but also their position in the peak of the natural order.

Naroks rite of passage lasted for months before he managed to bring back what would become the type of weapon he would be most famous for wielding, a short handled mace, spiked with the sharpened bones of a predator and coated in blood.

Now a man among his tribe, Narok entered the ranks of the hunters of the tribe, seeking out the dangers that live on the mountains and guiding them either away from their paths or into the paths of unwelcome travelers.

Guardian of the road.

Few credible tales exist of Narok from his time in the valley, for there is little to venture into the mountains for except for those following the lure of gold or ember. What exists are the few scattered recollections of emberseekers speaking of an orc, well versed in the land and guiding those seeking a way for a token payment of gold, ivory or pelts.

Knowing many of the secrets of the land, this orc believed to be Narok adorned in furs not found in the realm and speaking of isolated locations far away from the mountains he resided in made it appear that either he was well travelled even then or that he was guide to a great assortment of treasure seekers through the mountain passes.

Last of the Skytouched

Whether out on excursion by himself or simply by luck alone, Narok was the only one of his tribe when disaster struck. When the mountain they lived on cracked and the tribe was swallowed into the abyss, Narok was left with nowhere to go to and left to wander Nivaria with no tribe or kin left.

Father and son

Traveling by himself, and perhaps seeking refuge from the elements, Narok discovered the remains of what was a human settlement making their home in the caverns of the Everhollow caverns. Seemingly desolate and the victim of a vicious onslaught, the caverns where no longer a shelter for its inhabitants but a tomb. Corpses strewn about and seemingly engorged upon by some predator until it had its fill recently before retreating back into the depths of the caverns, were it not for the cries of a child echoing through the halls Narok would have stayed well clear of the place lest he entered a lair and became another meal on the menu.

Seeking out the child left alone all by himself, perhaps Narok saw a kindred spirit in the young boy as he adopted him as his own. Naming the child Brauhja

, with each passing day, grew under Narok's watchful eye, his body sculpted by ceaseless training and his spirit ignited by the indomitable fire that burned within his adopted father. Trained in the ways of the Skytouched tribe, Brauhja

learned how to survive in the world that had claimed the life of his people.

Potionmaker

In order to survive the elements and to reinforce the natural strength of an orc for the remainder of his life, it is a custom, tradition and a first rite of passage for an orc upon birth to be bathed in an arcane mixture of crushed ember known only to the elders within an orc community, infusing the young orc with strength and vitality if it survived the process.

Narok knew the secrets of this esoteric brew, but he also knew that it was much too potent for a non orc child to bear. Using his knowledge of the lands and the alchemical utilities found in throughout the lands, Narok fashioned a mixture of less potency that hardened Brauhja

to the elements and increased his strength and vitality but for a short duration only. Crudely at first, the recipe that Narok crafted became refined with time until he passed on his alchemical knowledge to Brauhja

in his adolescence that he may survive on his own from then on should Narok be incapacitated or worse.

to survive the lands, Narok codified what would become the tenents of the Perium Path as a way to survive. Emphasizing the importance of surviving the lands, never to settle for long before danger finds you and to teach others by having them follow you in your footstep like a parent does a child, the tenents of the Perium Path are seen as the direct word of Narok and held as law by those walking in their footsteps.
