An order as old as the planes themselves, the Portalmasters started with the seperation of the planes as it was through their works that the seperation occured in the first place.


Thought of as a means to bring the realms of the world closer, the portals were planned for years by the dwarven builders seeking to bring the far corners of the earth closer together. Ironic as it is, the opening of the portals caused the world to be splite further apart than it ever was before.
As the portals opened, the realms reacted to the unnatural proximity of elemental planes and the world split apart into the realm now known by their elemental uniqueness.
With the cataclysm on their conscience, the portalmasters closed the portals indefinately.


Much effort went into learning how to stabilize the portals through their arcane tethers, much longer than the natural lifespan of the dwarves allow. However, due to their connection to the portals, the souls of the portalmasters split across the planes and allow them to live for a time yet indeterminate.
With lifetimes of experience the portalmasters gained enough control of the portals that the portals could once again. As the portals reopened, the reality of how life had changed across the realms became evident to the masters that had known the realms before the split.


The primary charge of the portalmasters lie in the meticulous surveillance and maintenance of the portals scattered across the realms. Each portal represents a precious conduit, an interdimensional gateway that spans the fragmented expanses of the realms.
Clasping ancient tomes bound in the finest leather, their pages illuminated with arcane runes, the portalmasters tirelessly delve into the esoteric knowledge of their forebears that studied the nature of Astrarius works. They decipher cryptic incantations, pouring over intricate diagrams, and consult dusty scrolls penned by ancestors long gone. Their ceaseless studies serve to unravel the mysteries of the tethers of the portals and their capricious nature, permitting them to navigate the labyrinthine pathways that course through scattered remains of the world.


Through their unwavering commitment, the dwarven portalmasters safeguard the fragile strands of reality itself, weaving them together to ensure its stability so that the realms can once again become connected again.
Therefore a portalmasters word is final in all matters involving the traversal across the planes. No person or parcel makes it through the portals without the master permitting it, incorruptible by their first hand accounts of how the portals can wreak havok if left unchecked.


Though the portalmasters appear immortal, new members of their order is trained in case a master should finally meet his fate against the passing of time. Trained from all races while young and ambitious, the original masters are often weary of permitting responsibility to the new members as their inexperience and aspirations could easily mean cataclysm as their own did before.
