Portrait of Throdaens Society
Throdaens
Though the dwarves have long been on Nivaria, it wasn't until recently that they made their appearance known. Self sufficient and deep underground they remained until it was decided to reopen the portal on the surface.

Ignorant about the outside

Despite being present on Nivaria since its inception, their seclusion means that the dwarves possess neighter knowledge nor understanding of the history and cultures of the plane. All is as foreign to them as it is to any new arrival but seemingly the dwarves carry little wish to understand their plane either. If it doesn't disturb their homes underground it doesn't concern the minds of the dwarves here.

Delvers of the deep

Uncaring about the goings on in the world above, the dwarves instead dug deep. With the everlooming threat of floodings at every tunnelling, the dwarves of Nivaria pick their mining paths with care and their geologists have become obsessively aware of every detail of the rock being mined for hints of any danger.

As a consequence of their world the artifacts build by the dwarves on this plane have been made in order to ensure that their homes would remain safe. With machinery able to alert miners to their sorroundings, the dwarves of Nivaria are known to be described as fuzzy and paranoid even by their own kin. Though their novel machinery are unlike those most commonly created by dwarves as most dwarven artifacts known are meant to alleviate the user of the struggles of manual labor and not to fascilitate the use of manual labor.

Working with such caution has meant that the dwarves have been unable to uncover much of what lies in the underground of Nivaria, and they are in no hurry to do so either way.

Leadership and social structure

While the leadership in Nivaria carries with in the honorific title of Ruler, it is regarded mostly as an outpost being dictated commands directly from the dwarven council and barely maintains any autonomy.

The social structure is heavily bureaucratic, with positions being imposed on those deemed the best fit and chains of command by the high command, with multiple officer position for any laborer accentuating the importance of quality control before every action taken. Among the dwarves of Nivaria, to be deemed worthy of swinging the pickaxe against the walls of their tunnel is a sign of great trust for that individual by the leadership and those doing so are held in the highest regard by the community.

For the already cautious dwarves of Nivaria, being imposed restrictions from an outer authority is barely of any concern. However the opening of the dwarven cities to outsiders is known to put the dwarves on edge with worry that the clumsy outsiders could be a risk factor towards their already fragile lives.
