Hollowed out shells of their former selves. The Nivalites that have become overcome with the corruption seeping into their souls wander the lands, seemingly in a collective search for something through the ruins that were once the lands of their empire.
Listening in on their murmures at a distance they appear to retain memories of their former lives and even know their names. By the context of their speech they live in a subconcious state out of time, unable to tell what is recent and what is the ancient past.
Though they do not appear to be dangerous at a distance, step too close to one and it will be as if they are brought back to life with a fury and bloodlust intent on all life in their vicinity. As if through a type of telekinetic bond, all sorrounding corrupted nivalites will take pursuit of the stranger in their midst. Assume not that they are to be easily outrun, for they sweep over the top of the deep snows as if light as a feather and can traverse ice at full speed with no fear of slipping.
Should they get their hands on you, then your fate may depend on who you are. If you are not a nivalite they will promptly attemp to tear you limp from limp and drink your still warm blood from your corpse. If however you are of nivalite descend, then they'll draw out the soul from your body leaving you one of them, arguably a worse fate.
By tracking their paths through the snow and hail, their movements are not random. Occasionally digging and picking up something lost in the snow, the groups appear to be gathering pieces of something before bringing it back to somewhere.
Due to their numbers and the dangers of traversing into the territories known to be claimed by the lost nivalites, no formal expedition has been mounted, or at least none that successfully returned, into the territories that they claim. And as they seemingly claim the most inhospitable areas known, few feel the need to challenge them in what it is they are doing.
While they are mostly contained to specific regions, be weary of stragglers across even the safe lands. Known to occasionally stray into populated lands and lying in wait near travelling tracks in the snow, the fallen nivalites are known to coordinate ambushes in displays of intelligence and planning. As for what their interest is in the contents of the lone travelers that they ambush are, the only thing known is that they have a seeming interest in accruing ember from the remains of their victim.
