Nivaria
A celestial wonderland of captivating allure, adorned with an undulating expanse of glistening ice. Towering peaks and majestic glaciers carve intricate patterns on the frozen canvas. Inhabitants, resilient and connected to the ice, craft gravity-defying structures.
Frozen in a state of eternal winter, Nivaria stands as a glistening icy jewel among the planes. Swept with a constant flow of snow and hail, the surface of Nivaria is an everchanging landscape where one can never rely on retracing their footsteps as they disappear behind them over the ice ridges that make up the surface and leaves a pristine landscape where even the smokestacks of civilization gets drowned out in the frosty mists that cover the skies.

Surface

The surface split into seperate part, only a fraction of the surface is considered habitable to terrestrial life as we know it.
Consisting of a floating landmass on top of the waters of the realm, digging through the landmass always carry with it a danger of reaching a watery vein of the dirt, limiting the extraction of metal from the dirt.

With half the surface of the plane never seeing the rays of the sun, it is also covered by an icecap like an impenetrable enclosing shell impossible only reachable across the oceans of the plane and impenetrable to the common tools available to the planes inhabitants. It is believed that much of the ember on the plane is found over and within the icy armor of Nivaria just waiting to be extracted by whomever first penetrates its crust.

Oceans

Covered in a liquid sea of briny waters, the salty seas of Nivaria are of a caliber of their own. Discouraging extended exploration of its oceans by its corossive nature on available deepwater exploration tools, the wast depths of the icy plane has remained a largely unexplored realm hidden away from the men and women seeking to explore what lies below in the fathomless depths.

Not known for certain, it is believed that the largest diversity on the plane is to be found beneath the icy plateau that most inhabitants know only a glimpse of from the surface waters.

Sustaining a sizeable fish population, it comes as little surprise that the culinary traditions among the inhabitants of the plane revolve highly around dishes of mostly fish soups, complementing the availability of marine life with the watering down of the highly saline meat that the seas provide.

Adaptation

Adapting to life on the watery ice plane, the inhabitants of Nivaria use a wide asortments of alternatives to the luxuries commonly known on other planes.

Crafting traditions

With a lack of metal to work with, metal and metalworking is a rarity of great value not used by the common inhabitant of the plane.

Rather replacing the use of metal tools with tools made of plain wood or ivory, the craftmanship of the inhabitants isn't known for its quality and is often ridiculed by outsiders as barbaric and crude.

Untouched by this perception of them from the outside, the inhabitants of Nivaria would never be foolish enough to use metal tools on the soggy saline dirt as that would quickly detoriate the metal itself.

Warfare

With metaltools being as rare as they are on the plain, warfare is fought differently on the plane of Nivaria compared to other planes. With most weaponry being made of sharpened ivory susceptible to turning crude, warfare is commonly fought through campaigns consisting of short skirmishes, sabotage and harassment between each side.

Looting the spoils of war on the battlefield isn't reserved to after battle as combatants often take on the arms of the fallen mid combat to serve themsleves in the battle being fought.

Armor traditions are similarly impacted. Other than metal armor being an absolute rarity reserved for the soldiers of highest importance only, with the danger of errosion constantly a threat when on a march the legs are never covered with metal causing a battle style of attacking and defending against strikes below the belt being common across the plane.

Ruins of a lost empire

Desolate, crumbling and burried beneath the snow coating the landscapes of Nivaria lies the remnants of a people lost to the nature of the plane. Evacuated in a hurry and not inhabitable to those unable to whether the cold climate, the ruins are often full of the advanced treasures of their first inhabitants and at risk of being populated by something dangerous making a lair of the place and aggressive to any would be treasure hunters seeking their fortune among the artifacts of the forgotten passages.

Realm of the Treasure Seekers

Ruins scattering the landscape filled with artifacts and ember lures the hearts of the brave and bold adventurers across the planes. Serving as a source of the most readily attainable and abundant amounts of ember known across the planes, there is always those ready to delve into the depths of the towers sprouting their spires over the frosty peaks that cover the cities now, delving deep below to where the only light is that which they bring with them as well as the dim glows of ember that has yet to be pilfered by outsiders as themselves.

With dangers both inside the crumbling ruins and outside where the natural forces seek to assail them, an experienced dungeon delver knows that the greatest danger lies in wait for their ambush, for if it is known that an expedition is taking place, there are those elements seeking to capitalize on the hard work of others.

From common bandits to orcs looking for a great haul of ember, an obviously evident entrance to a spire can often be a trap set up by onlookers watching in wait and keeping the entrance clear and open for others to enter only to spring in to loot the success of those that entered.

With such dangers all around, expeditions into the depths are often a closely guarded secret shared only between a close band of companions or official expeditions guarded and protected by mercenaries aplenty. If you'll find a notice for adventurers seeking members for their expedition, expect them to be seeking the contents of your pockets out in the wastes or simply inexperienced liabilities best avoided in either case.

Gelidnose

Burrowing through the Everhollow Caverns, this critter has served as a staple food for the many societies that has once called the caverns their home. Though not known for its great taste, the meat is nutritious even in small portions that a population should be able to sustain itself indefinately within the icy caves on gelidnose alone.

Frigodent

Aggressive and territorial, the frigodent is none the less a lifesaver to those living on the border of its domain.
Living solitary through most of their life, the frigodent is only seen mingle with others of its kind during mating season and when their offspring are growing up. With the milk of the mother being sought after for its taste and nutrition, to restrain one requires a team of professionals capable of not only restraining the speciment but also release it after harvest so that they can continue to do so until it gives birth and the males return to protect their offspring.
